Is the Torino+Piemonte Card Worth It?

The tourism board does something most card sellers avoid: it tells you exactly where the value starts. Their own FAQ says the five busiest museums average €17 a ticket, so you break even at your third visit. We went and checked the prices behind that claim.

Checking their math

Take the three doors most first-time visitors actually want. The Musei Reali complex charges €15 for the full circuit, and its own ticketing page lists the Torino+Piemonte Card among the passes that enter free. The Cinema Museum in the Mole is €15, or €20 with the panoramic lift (which the card doesn’t cover, and the lift skips Tuesdays anyway). The Egyptian Museum has listed between €15 and €18 in recent seasons, with the odd promotion below that.

Add it up and the classic first-timer’s list costs somewhere between €45 and €53 at the gates. The 2-day card is $46 on the listing here, about €40 at the board’s shop. So yes, the claim holds: by the time you walk into a third museum the card has paid for itself, and everything after that is savings. If anything the board undersells it, because their €17 average includes a lot of small, cheap museums from the list of eighty that you may never visit.

Who should buy it

People who came for the museums, which in Turin is most people. Families do especially well here: each adult card takes one child under 12 along free, with the same benefits, so two cards can cover a family of four. And if a day out at Venaria or the Piedmont castles is in your plans, the longer tiers were made for exactly that.

Who shouldn’t

If your Turin is chocolate, porticoes and long lunches, skip the card. Nothing about that trip needs a ticket, and one museum visit never justifies one. Be careful with Sunday-to-Monday stays too. Most museums close on Mondays, so a short card can burn a whole day against shut doors. And know that city transport is not included. That surprises people who’ve used other European city cards; the trams and metro are on your own coin here, though the centre is compact enough to walk almost everything.

In short

Three museums or more, buy it, and let the tier guide pick the length. One or two, buy singles and spend the difference on dinner. Either way the Egyptian Museum deserves a booked time slot, card or no card.
